An Amazing World Premiere of 'Silk Rags The Musical'!

Gosh! We are already into November - and 2024 saw our dream come true! The World Premiere of 'Silk Rags The Musical' was performed in the regional Queensland town of Monto.

Did you see us all on National TV? Watch the ABC National News segment in the video below....

So how on earth did this happen?

Our Facebook marketing campaign came to the attention of Maxene Cooper, Founder and President of newly formed Monto Performing Arts.

After a few online video meetings, viewing the script and listening to the soundtrack, Monto Performing Arts decided that 'Silk Rags The Musical' would become their first production. How brave of them to tackle a new Musical Theatre piece that has never been seen before - which is also about Cancer.

Was it successful?

You bet! Apart from raising $2500 for Australian Cancer Research Foundation, the cast, crew and audiences came together to laugh, cry, clap, sing along and most importantly LEARN about communication strategies when a friend or loved one receives a cancer diagnosis. And it all happened in a 100 year old beautiful and HUGE Art Deco Theatre.

Eeek! If you missed it.....will it be performed again?

You bet! Monto Performing Arts have already been asked to perform 'Silk Rags The Musical' at another 2 regional community towns in the South Burnett Region.

We've also received a serious enquiry from a professional theatre with regards to a future season.

What did we learn from our World Premiere Production at Monto?

  1. That it works! It sends a message for all to learn from via the power of theatre and music. Check out our short feedback video's of audience, cast and crew here.

  2. That we need a 20 minute documentary film which tells 'The Story of The Silk Rags Project' which will be shown in the first half of future performances. Watch this space!

  3. That MONTO truly is a wonderful town, with a supportive community who welcomed us warmly and we left with many new friends.

  4. That we can now adapt the performance into a Radio Play - we've already started recording it!

Why not check out the photo's and videos from the fabulous event here!
