Whilst undergoing cancer treatments, Briohne Sykes and Dee Handyside separately created a script and musical album which covered the experience.  They are now combined as an entertaining and educational experience which donates 38% of proceeds to Australian Cancer Research Foundation

Our Story

We are very proud to be working with our Partners on this project.  It is incredibly important to us that our Partners lead by their values.

We are very proud to be an authorised fundraiser with The Australian Cancer Research Foundation.  Our partnership commenced in 2010 with the original musical soundtrack and we've sung, performed and walked for them since then!    The reason why we admire The Australian Cancer Research Foundation so much is because they don't get side-tracked with marketing.  They remain focused on research.  You may not have even heard of them - but that's because of their sole approach and professionalism.  For example, they funded the breakthrough Cervical Cancer Vaccine. You can find out more about ACRF here.

KATIE SBRANA offered in-kind photography when we filmed our advert. Katie was amazing in her preparation to fully understand what our Project is about and worked alongside our film director so that our shots complimented the advert as well as our local participants! Katie put us all at ease. We asked for informal shots and Katie did such a lovely job. You can follow her here

Tamborine Mountain Makes It Happen is a fundraising group of volunteers from our home town. Together, with support from local businesses and residents, they organised an auction to raise funds for us to cover set up & marketing fees. Tamborine Mountain truly is the most caring community in Australia!

We jumped at the opportunity to work with Dr Vanette McLennan, Senior Lecturer in Rehabilitation Counselling, because we wanted our Educational Handout 'Not Sure What to Say?' to be based on real knowledge, research and experience.   The handout is a resource that comes from a cancer patient's perspective and compliments The Silk Rags Project's performances.  When faced with the distressing news of a family member or friend being diagnosed with cancer, saying and doing the 'right' things can be tricky.  While everyone is different and will require individualised support, the Educational Handout gives a few tips to navigate this with compassion.    An article about the Educational Handout is here. You can find out more about Griffith University here.

Naomi Blythe designed our Silk Rags Project logo and did a wonderful job of creating the colour scheme which was not aligned with any particular type of cancer.  This was important to us because our project represents all genders and all cancers.  Naomi specialises in logo's, websites, brochures, books etc. See her website here to check out her excellent skills.

Scott Wilson, Owner of Replicat leapt into action when he heard of our wish to have Digital Download Cards and pins produced. Having previously assisted with the manufacture of the soundtrack CD, Scott gave us ample help in designing the new product which meant that we could remove our soundtrack from streaming services. This meant that we could donate much more money to The Australian Cancer Research Foundation. Scott is an absolute legend!
