10 years ago, we had a dream. We created an Educational and Fundraising Mini-Musical about a group of friends and the inappropriate and annoying things that they say and do when one of them has a cancer diagnosis.
Having teamed up with The Australian Cancer Research Foundation and Griffith University, we've created an arts package that you can host at home, in an office, at school or perform in a theatre. You'll laugh - You'll Cry - but You'll LEARN whilst raising money for Cancer Research.
We've filmed the advert, taken the professional photos, trialled it in theatres and in homes.
Finally its coming true! The Silk Rags Project is being launched 24th September 2022 which is World Cancer Research Day. Why not come along - RSVP here!
WE ARE HUMBLED THAT OUR HOME OF TAMBORINE MOUNTAIN, SE QLD ARE INVOLVED AND SUPPORTING US
Why should Tamborine Mountain be proud?
'The Silk Rags Project’ was written by 2 Tamborine Mountain women whilst undergoing their own cancer treatments. Briohne Sykes wrote the script and Dee Handyside composed, self recorded and produced the soundtrack.
The film advert, photography, website advice and research has all involved Tamborine Mountain residents, so this is a truly local enterprise which is making a BIG difference.
Why is fundraising now needed?
Sadly, Briohne passed away in 2018. Dee, a local musician, has funded the whole project so far. Finally, after National and International media interest, 'The Silk Rags Project' is to be officially launched on World Cancer Research Day - 24th September 2022 with The Australian Cancer Research Foundation, whom we are endorsed to donate 50% of each sale.
'THE MOUNTAIN MAKES IT HAPPEN!' is a Tamborine Mountain fundraising group.
They are organising raffles, auctions and events to raise the funds so that Dee can afford the marketing and resources needed. They are approaching Tamborine Mountain businesses and the community to donate prizes and money.
They are also seeking in-kind, financial and prize donations from Tamborine Mountain businesses and community members.
Please join us in being part of our community to ensure that 'The Mountain Makes The Silk Rags Project Happen!'
If you are a Tamborine Mountain Business or Community Member that wants to assist by sponsoring fundraising events or donating or even volunteering with the team, please contact:
