Jenny general quote.jpeg

JENNY - TEACHER AND EVENT HOST

Which character did you play?  I was Character 'Two'. She was a typical worried friend with no actual experience of what to say to someone with cancer.

In hindsight, what did you learn?  I've perhaps been dismissive by saying the wrong thing.

What did you discuss after the reading?  That perhaps I've said the exact same phrases that friends should not say and many other people would be in the same position.

Liz general quote.jpeg

LIZ - VET NURSE

Which character did you play?  I was Character 'Three'.  I noticed some similarities between the character and myself.

In hindsight, what did you learn? I've definitely said inappropriate things.

What did you discuss after the reading? About how well the music fitted in with the script and how much we focus on our own lives when somebody else requires more.

Polly general quote.jpeg

POLLY - RETIRED LIBRARIAN

Which character did you play?  My Character 'One' was patient and resilient but long suffering when confronted with the reactions of her friends.

In hindsight, what did you learn?  That I think we may all have tried to empathise in the wrong way.

What did you discuss after the reading? That there is a whole library of reactions to a cancer diagnosis and the handout is a starter tool-kit.

Lee general quote.jpeg

LEE - STAY AT HOME DAD

Which character did you play?  I played 'Man'. I felt his struggle to be strong for those around him, yet falling apart on the inside.

In hindsight, what did you learn? I would be more focused on them and their needs rather than qualify my understanding.

What did you discuss after the reading?  That I had found it emotional.  Everyone struggles with something inside.

Alicia general quote.jpeg

ALICIA - MIDWIFE

Which character did you play?  I played Character 'Four'.  She was funny but tactless.

In hindsight, what did you learn?  Previously, I have been too positive.

What did you discuss after the reading?  That I'd lost some friends to cancer.  Now I wish I'd given them space. It would have helped them when they knew they were dying.
